Cross country mountain biking

A great area to go mountain biking. Lots of variety here, with the Alta Via running along the high mountains between France and Italy at an average altitude of 2000m, the old salt road linking the coast with Piemonte and tracks through the vineyards and olive groves. It’s a great way to explore the ‘entroterra’ or countryside away from the hustle of the Riviera. 

 

It's possible to start the day at the summit of Monte Saccarello and follow the Alta Via down (well mostly, with a few stiff undulations) to Ventimiglia the border with France on the Mediterranean coast.  Head east and descend to Imperia through some very pretty medieval villages and then head back to the Argentina valley.

 

Included in the price of the holiday is a morning drop off if desired in the higher reaches of the mountains.  A great way to ease yourself into each day.

 

 

Lots of mountain refuges to restock the carbohydrates, even agriturismos where it’s possible to buy some fresh cheeses, honey and wines.
